If you’re not already a regular waxer, it’s always a good idea to have a few waxes before your holiday appointment so that you get the smoothest result possible.
But why?
Well, firstly, if you’ve never waxed before you don’t know how your skin is going to react.
Adverse reactions are incredibly rare, but unless you’ve been waxing for years you will probably have stronger and more dense growth than a regular waxer, so the more hair we remove, and the tougher it is, the more follicles we upset and the more chance there is of irritation.
So even if you don’t have an adverse reaction, do you really want irritated skin on holiday? No, didn’t think so!
But secondly, if you’ve been previously shaving you’re going to have stubble laying dormant (asleep) in your follicles from months ago, just waiting for the next hair to start growing and push it out at any given moment.
So this means that even after you’ve had a wax, you could still get stubble grow through for months!
Neither of which are ideal when you’re sunning yourself in your itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini – are they?
It takes a few cycles of 4-6 weekly waxing to catch all those dormant stubbly hairs. So for best results get a few waxes in beforehand, 3-4 is usually enough, but it does depend on your hair growth cycles.
This can still apply even if you havn’t removed your hairs for a while and are au naturel- you will still have various lengths and cycles of hairs, not all of which will be long enough to wax. There could also be hairs below the surface that we don’t know are there until they grow through mid holiday.
But once we get into a good waxing cycle the growth is much more predictable, so you can feel more assured that your smooth skin will last the duration of your holiday.
Of course, if you only want one wax before your holiday that’s fine, it will reduce the amount of growth you’ll potentially need to deal with while you’re away, but you just won’t get the smoothest and longest lasting results that you could.

It’s also a good idea to start increasing your home care routine, that means exfoliating 2-3 times a week and moisturising as close to daily as possible. I absolutely love Ruff Stuff Daily Scrub, it leaves your skin feeling absolutely amazing and really helps keep ingrown hairs at bay. Followed by Eve Taylor Rescue and Repair body moisturiser, which has hyaluronic acid to help plump and rejuvenate the skin and chamomile to sooth and protect, perfect for after any hair removal procedure.
SO if you want to make sure you’re silky for summer, don’t delay – Get yourself booked in and get your skin smoothing products ordered!
P.S. Don’t forget you need at the very least 3-4 weeks growth after shaving for a wax!
P.P.S. Regular waxers always get the longest smoothest results for their holidays 😉
